Introduction

Sharoda Dasgupta, PhD, MPH US Public Health Service and Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer CDC

This blog is intended to provide documentation of my experiences in the CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service program from 2015-2017. I hope that writing these posts may serve as an emotional outlet as well as a fun and easy way to observe my own growth as a scientist and a person.

My goals in EIS include, but are not limited to:

1. Gain more public health experience as a field epidemiologist and boots-on-the-ground disease detective.

2. Learn to adapt to local culture and social norms in interacting with different communities and developing tailored health interventions.

3. Network with and learn from other epidemiologists and medical officers at CDC.

4. Further develop my skills as an epidemiologist, both in analytic methodology and logistically in the field.

5. Become a more compassionate person whose purpose is to serve others, if for no other reason, to serve That which unites us all.
